lyric heavy indie pop with a folk heartbeat
dalloway is singer/songwriter Mary-Cait (MC) Hentz, the name a nod to her favorite novel, Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway. It’s a story that explores mental health, queerness, the trivialities that make life beautiful, and the invisible spiderwebs of connection between us all.
MC grew up in a tiny town nestled in the woods just outside of Boston, but has called east Los Angeles home for the past decade. While she's performed all her life, from school musicals to twelve years of voice lessons to four years of collegiate a cappella (nerd) – her single first phases in June 2022 and subsequent six song EP Overripe in December of that year - marked the debut release of her own music.
dalloway is inspired by the syrupy sweet taste of nostalgia, Jenny Lewis, Bright Eyes, Taylor Swift, Kate Nash and the Atlantic Ocean. The cold feeling that longing leaves in your chest, neurodivergence, seasonal depression, and the lonely earnestness inherent in being the eldest child. The joy of finally finding the right words, being queer as fuck, morbid curiosity, vintage, lapsed Catholicism, and art nouveau.
